Dr. Monica Peek Receives SGIM Leadership and UChicago DOM Diversity Awards

Dr. Monica Peek was recently the recipient of two awards:

  • In April, she received a leadership award from the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) during the leadership luncheon in appreciation for her exceptional leadership and contributions ÿas the Co-Chair of the SGIM Disparities Task Force from 2012-2014.
  • In June, she was presented with the University of Chicago Department of Medicine 2014 Diversity Award for outstanding research in health disparities and the mentorship of minority students.

S.T.A.R.S. on the South Side of Chicago Recognition Award ? Omar Lampkin

May 1, 2014 ? Omar Lampkin is a community member on the South Side of Chicago and the project?s star for Spring 2014. Many of Omar?s family members have been impacted by diabetes, which inspired him to become involved with the project. He volunteers as a peer-to-peer community health educator and provides nutritional education to community members at the 61st Street Farmer?s Market.
