The Urban Health Initiative is a long-term commitment to strategically improving health and access to quality care on the South Side of Chicago through patient care, community-based research and medical education. Many of its leaders, such as Dr. Doriane Miller, have contributed to our project by supporting the health centers in their quality improvement work and co-hosting community events.
Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Finding Answers was launched in 2005 and has a three-part mission: to evaluate 33 interventions that aim to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in health care, to perform systematic reviews of the disparities intervention literature, and to widely disseminate findings from both efforts. Finding Answers shares many team members with our project, which contributes to helpful peer-to-peer exchange and support.
The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is dedicated to inspiring diverse students of exceptional promise to become leaders and innovators in science and medicine for the betterment of humanity. Students from the Pritzker School of Medicine work with our team to do intensive summer research and longitudinal Scholarship and Discovery projects.
Kennedy King College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, provides students with an education appropriate to their needs, that will allow them to achieve the kind of economic, cultural, and social life they desire. Nursing and culinary students from Kennedy King College have contributed to our project by volunteering at community events and assisting with research tasks. Kennedy King College hosted the kick-off meeting of Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago.
